How Many Concrete Blocks Do You Need?

The required quantity depends on the wall area and the face area covered by one block plus its mortar joint. A commonly used nominal concrete block face is 16 inches long by 8 inches high.

A nominal 16 × 8 inch block covers approximately 0.889 square feet. This means a wall generally requires about 1.125 standard blocks per square foot before deducting openings or adding waste.
