What Is Darakaraka?

Darakaraka is a relationship significator used in Jaimini astrology. The word “Dara” refers to a spouse or partner, while “Karaka” means significator. It is commonly studied to understand qualities associated with committed partnerships, expectations from a spouse, and lessons experienced through relationships.

In the traditional seven-planet method, Darakaraka is the planet holding the lowest degree within its zodiac sign among the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. The zodiac sign itself is removed from the comparison, so only the degrees, minutes, and seconds within each sign are used.

Why Exact Minutes and Seconds Matter

Two planets may have the same degree number. Minutes and seconds make the comparison more precise and help determine which planet has travelled the shorter distance through its sign. For the most reliable result, copy the exact positions shown in a sidereal Vedic birth chart.

Calculation Process

How the Darakaraka Calculator Works

The tool converts each planetary position into arc seconds and selects the smallest valid value.

Check Your Birth Chart

Find the within-sign degrees, minutes, and seconds of the seven traditional planets in your Vedic astrology chart.

Enter All Positions

Add every value carefully. Degrees must be between 0 and 29, while minutes and seconds must be between 0 and 59.

03

Find the Lowest Value

The calculator compares all seven positions. The planet with the smallest within-sign longitude is displayed as Darakaraka.

Common Questions

Darakaraka Calculator FAQs

Compare the degrees, minutes, and seconds travelled within the current sign by the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn. The planet with the lowest position becomes Darakaraka.

No. Enter only the planet's position within its zodiac sign. For example, if a chart shows Venus at 187° 12′ overall, its within-sign position is 7° 12′ because 180° marks the beginning of the seventh 30-degree sign.

This calculator follows the commonly used seven-planet system and excludes Rahu and Ketu. Some Jaimini traditions use an eight-karaka method involving Rahu, so methods can vary.

The calculator checks minutes and seconds after degrees. If all three values are exactly equal, it reports a tie and recommends using more precise planetary data or consulting a qualified astrologer.

No single placement can identify an exact person or guarantee marriage outcomes. Astrologers normally interpret Darakaraka together with its sign, house, aspects, Navamsa chart, seventh house, and other chart factors.

Planetary positions can sometimes be estimated from a birth date, but accurate birth time and location are preferable—especially because the Moon moves relatively quickly and exact minutes or seconds may affect close comparisons.
