What Is a Working Days Calculator?

A Working Days Calculator determines how many working days fall between two selected dates. It can exclude weekends and specific holidays so that only eligible workdays are included.

This is useful when a deadline is expressed in working days rather than calendar days. Common examples include project deadlines, order processing periods, employee schedules, administrative tasks, and business service timelines.

Basic Working Days Formula

Working Days = Calendar Days − Weekend Days − Eligible Holidays

A holiday is only removed when it would otherwise qualify as a working day. This prevents a holiday that falls on an already excluded weekend from being deducted twice.

How to Use the Working Days Calculator

You can calculate your working-day period in three simple steps.

1

Select Your Dates

Choose the beginning and ending dates of the period you want to calculate.

2

Choose Exclusions

Select weekend days and enter any custom holidays that should not count as working days.

Working Days vs Calendar Days

Working days and calendar days measure a date range differently. Calendar days include every eligible date in the selected period, while working days remove specified non-working dates.

Calendar Days

Every included date in the selected period, regardless of whether it is a weekday, weekend, or holiday.

Working Days

Dates treated as regular workdays after your selected weekend and holiday exclusions are applied.

Non-Working Days

Dates excluded because they are selected weekend days or eligible custom holidays.

When Is a Working Days Calculator Useful?

Working-day calculations are useful whenever schedules or deadlines depend on actual workdays instead of all calendar days.

Working Days Calculation Example

Suppose your selected date range contains 20 included calendar days. Within that period there are six excluded weekend days and one custom holiday that falls on a weekday.

20 Calendar Days − 6 Weekend Days − 1 Holiday

= 13 Working Days

If the holiday fell on an already excluded Saturday or Sunday, it would not be deducted a second time.

What Counts as a Working Day?

Standard Weekdays

Monday through Friday are commonly treated as working days, but working schedules vary between organizations, countries, and industries.

Saturday and Sunday

This calculator excludes Saturday and Sunday by default. You can uncheck either option if that day should count as a regular working day for your calculation.

Public and Company Holidays

Holiday calendars differ by location and employer. For that reason, this calculator lets you enter specific holiday dates manually rather than assuming one universal holiday calendar.

Start and End Dates

You can independently choose whether the start date and end date should be included in the calculation. This makes the tool useful for different deadline and scheduling conventions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are working days?

Working days are dates treated as normal workdays under a particular schedule. Monday through Friday is common, although the exact schedule can vary.

Does the Working Days Calculator exclude weekends?

Yes. Saturday and Sunday are excluded by default, but you can change either setting before calculating.

Does the calculator exclude holidays?

It can exclude custom holidays that you enter manually. This allows the calculator to work with different holiday calendars.

Can Saturday count as a working day?

Yes. Uncheck "Exclude Saturday" and Saturday will be treated as an eligible working day.

Are the start and end dates included?

Both are included by default. Separate options allow you to exclude either boundary date when required.

What happens if a holiday falls on a weekend?

The calculator does not subtract it twice. If the date is already excluded as a weekend, it remains one non-working day.

Can I use this calculator for project deadlines?

Yes. It can help count workdays within a project period, but you should apply your organization's actual schedule and holiday rules when setting a formal deadline.
