Actual Yield Calculator
Calculate actual yield from theoretical yield and percent yield. You can also reverse the calculation to find percent yield or theoretical yield using the available values.
Calculate Reaction Yield
Select what you want to calculate and enter the two known values.
Actual Yield = Theoretical Yield × (Percent Yield ÷ 100)
What Is Actual Yield?
Actual yield is the amount of desired product obtained from an experiment or reaction. It is different from theoretical yield, which represents the maximum product amount predicted by stoichiometric calculations.
Actual yield is commonly compared with theoretical yield using percent yield. This comparison helps describe how much of the predicted product amount was actually obtained.
Actual Yield Formula
If theoretical yield and percent yield are known, actual yield can be calculated by converting the percentage to a decimal and multiplying it by theoretical yield.
How to Use the Actual Yield Calculator
Select a Calculation
Choose Actual Yield, Percent Yield, or Theoretical Yield depending on the unknown value in your problem.
Enter Known Values
Enter the two values you already know. When both yield amounts are used, keep them in the same measurement unit.

Actual, Theoretical and Percent Yield Formulas
| Calculate | Formula |
|---|---|
| Actual Yield | Theoretical Yield × Percent Yield ÷ 100 |
| Percent Yield | (Actual Yield ÷ Theoretical Yield) × 100 |
| Theoretical Yield | Actual Yield ÷ (Percent Yield ÷ 100) |
Actual Yield Calculation Example
Example
Suppose the theoretical yield is 50 g and the percent yield is 80%.
Actual Yield = 50 × (80 ÷ 100)
Actual Yield = 50 × 0.80
Actual Yield = 40 g
Actual Yield vs Theoretical Yield
| Yield Type | Meaning | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Actual Yield | Amount of desired product actually obtained | Experimental result |
| Theoretical Yield | Maximum predicted product amount | Stoichiometric calculation |
| Percent Yield | Ratio of actual to theoretical yield | Calculated percentage |
How Is Percent Yield Calculated?
Percent yield compares the actual amount of product with the theoretically predicted amount. Both yield values must represent the same product and should be expressed in the same units before calculating the percentage.
