Compensation Calculator

What Is a Bonus Calculator?

A bonus calculator estimates how much bonus pay you may receive based on your salary, bonus percentage, fixed bonus, performance multiplier, and other incentive payments.

It can also help you estimate how much of the bonus may remain after applying an estimated deduction or withholding rate. This makes it easier to compare your gross bonus with your expected take-home amount.

Many employers structure bonuses as a percentage of base salary. Others provide a fixed cash amount or adjust the target bonus according to individual, team, or company performance. This calculator supports both approaches.

Percentage bonus formula
Base Bonus = Salary × (Bonus Percentage ÷ 100)
Performance-adjusted bonus
Adjusted Bonus = Base Bonus × Performance Multiplier
Estimated net bonus
Net Bonus = Gross Bonus − Percentage Deductions − Fixed Deductions
Simple Calculation

How the Bonus Calculator Works

The calculator starts with your target bonus, applies any performance adjustment and additional bonus payments, and then subtracts the deductions you enter.

01

Choose Bonus Type

Select a salary percentage bonus or enter a fixed bonus amount provided by your employer.

02

Add Adjustments

Enter a performance multiplier and any additional incentive, commission, or spot bonus.

03

Review Net Bonus

Add your estimated deductions to see gross bonus, deductions, and estimated take-home bonus.

Practical Example

Bonus Calculation Example

Suppose an employee earns a base salary of $60,000 and is eligible for a 10% target bonus. Their base bonus would be $6,000 before any performance adjustment or deductions.

If the employee receives 120% of the target because of performance, the adjusted bonus becomes $7,200. If an estimated 22% deduction is applied, the estimated take-home bonus would be lower than the gross bonus.

Item Example Value Calculation
Base Salary $60,000 Entered salary
Bonus Percentage 10% $60,000 × 10%
Target Bonus $6,000 Before performance adjustment
Performance Multiplier 1.20× $6,000 × 1.20
Adjusted Bonus $7,200 Gross before deductions
Understanding Bonus Pay

Gross Bonus vs. Net Bonus

Your gross bonus is the total bonus earned before taxes, withholding, benefit deductions, or other amounts are removed. Your net bonus is the amount remaining after deductions.

The exact amount withheld from a bonus can vary depending on your country, tax jurisdiction, payroll system, other income, and employer policies. For that reason, this tool does not assume that one tax rate applies to everyone.

Instead, you can enter your own estimated percentage and fixed deductions to model a take-home bonus that better matches your circumstances.

Common Questions

Bonus Calculator FAQs

How do I calculate a bonus percentage?

Multiply the salary amount used for the bonus calculation by the bonus percentage expressed as a decimal. For example, a 10% bonus on a $60,000 salary equals $6,000 before adjustments and deductions.

What does a 10% bonus mean?

A 10% bonus generally means the target bonus is equal to 10% of the salary amount used by the employer for the calculation. A $50,000 salary with a 10% bonus would produce a $5,000 target bonus.

What is a performance multiplier?

A performance multiplier adjusts a target bonus. A multiplier of 1.00 represents 100% of target, 1.20 represents 120% of target, and 0.80 represents 80% of target.

Can I calculate a fixed cash bonus?

Yes. Select the Fixed Amount option and enter the gross cash bonus. You can then add a performance multiplier, additional bonus, and estimated deductions.

How do I estimate my bonus after deductions?

Enter your estimated deduction or withholding percentage and any fixed deductions. The calculator subtracts those values from the gross bonus to estimate the amount remaining.

Is a bonus always based on annual salary?

No. Employers may calculate bonuses using annual salary, eligible earnings, a fixed target, company performance, individual performance, or another compensation formula. Check your bonus plan for the exact method that applies to you.

Does this calculator store my salary?

No. The calculations are performed directly in your browser using JavaScript, so the values you enter are not required to be sent to a calculation server.

Important: This calculator provides general estimates only. Actual bonus eligibility, withholding, taxes, deductions, and final payment amounts depend on your employer's plan, payroll rules, and applicable laws.
