Why Chain Link Count Is Usually Rounded
A theoretical calculation can produce a fractional number of chain pitches, but a real chain can only be assembled using discrete links and compatible inner and outer link combinations.
For that reason, this tool can round the theoretical result upward. The default option rounds upward to the next even link count, which is useful as a practical estimate for many conventional bicycle chains.
Master links, half-links, drivetrain type, derailleur geometry, and manufacturer sizing methods can affect the final usable chain length.
