Excavation volume is the amount of soil, rock, or other material that must be removed from a construction area. It is normally measured in cubic meters, cubic feet, or cubic yards.
The in-ground quantity is commonly called bank volume. After excavation, the material becomes less compact and occupies more space. This expanded quantity is called loose volume.
