What Is a Fuel Consumption Calculator?
A fuel consumption calculator is a practical tool that measures how much fuel your vehicle uses over a specific distance. Instead of guessing your car mileage, you can enter the distance travelled and the amount of fuel used to get exact values like miles per gallon, kilometers per liter, and liters per 100 kilometers.
This is useful for daily driving, long trips, delivery routes, fuel budgeting, car comparison, and checking whether your vehicle is consuming more fuel than normal.
How It Works
Enter Distance
Add the total distance you travelled in kilometers or miles.
Add Fuel Used
Enter how much fuel your vehicle consumed in liters or gallons.
Add Fuel Price
Use the optional price field to calculate total trip cost.

Fuel Consumption Formula
The calculator uses standard fuel economy formulas:
km/L = Distance in kilometers ÷ Fuel used in liters
MPG = Distance in miles ÷ Fuel used in gallons
L/100km = Fuel used in liters ÷ Distance in kilometers × 100
A lower L/100km value means your vehicle uses less fuel. A higher MPG or km/L value means your vehicle travels farther using less fuel.
Why Fuel Consumption Matters
Tracking fuel consumption helps you control driving costs, notice engine problems early, and improve your vehicle’s overall performance. If fuel usage suddenly increases, it may be caused by low tire pressure, dirty air filters, poor driving habits, heavy loads, fuel quality, or maintenance issues.
FAQs
What is good fuel consumption?
Good fuel consumption depends on the vehicle type. Smaller cars may achieve excellent mileage, while larger SUVs and trucks normally use more fuel. In general, lower L/100km and higher MPG indicate better fuel economy.
How do I calculate fuel consumption manually?
Divide the distance travelled by the amount of fuel used. For km/L, divide kilometers by liters. For MPG, divide miles by gallons. For L/100km, divide liters by kilometers and multiply by 100.
Can this calculator estimate fuel cost?
Yes. Enter your fuel price per liter or per gallon in the optional price field. The calculator will show total fuel cost and cost per kilometer or mile.
Why is my car using more fuel than before?
Common causes include underinflated tires, aggressive driving, old spark plugs, dirty filters, traffic conditions, heavy cargo, poor wheel alignment, or engine maintenance problems.
Is MPG better when the number is higher?
Yes. A higher MPG means the vehicle can travel more miles using one gallon of fuel. For L/100km, the opposite is true: a lower number is better.
