Horsepower-to-Torque Formula

Torque (lb-ft) = Horsepower × 5252 ÷ RPM

Torque (N·m) = Power (kW) × 9549.30 ÷ RPM

Angular Speed = RPM × 2π ÷ 60

Torque and horsepower are directly connected through rotational speed. At the same horsepower, a lower RPM produces a higher calculated torque, while a higher RPM produces a lower torque.

Horsepower-to-Torque Calculation Example

Suppose an engine produces 300 mechanical horsepower at 6,000 RPM. The torque can be calculated using the standard imperial formula.
