What Is a Pass Mark Calculator?
A Pass Mark Calculator finds the minimum score required to meet a specified passing percentage. It can be used for exams, tests, assignments, courses and other points-based assessments.
You only need the total available marks and the percentage required to pass. The calculator converts that percentage into the corresponding number of marks.
How Are Passing Marks Calculated?
Passing marks are calculated by multiplying the total available marks by the required passing percentage and dividing the result by 100.
Pass Mark Example
Suppose an exam has 150 total marks.
The required passing percentage is 40%.
The calculation is:
150 × (40 ÷ 100) = 60
Therefore, the calculated pass mark is 60 out of 150.
How to Check Pass or Fail
If your marks obtained are equal to or greater than the required pass mark, the calculator reports a passing result. If your score is below the pass mark, it shows how many additional marks would have been required.
Pass Mark Examples
| Total Marks | Pass % | Calculated Pass Mark |
|---|---|---|
| 100 | 40% | 40 |
| 150 | 40% | 60 |
| 200 | 50% | 100 |
| 80 | 60% | 48 |
| 500 | 35% | 175 |
