Measure the Installation Area
Select a rectangular or circular layout and enter the project dimensions in feet or meters.
Estimate pavers, project area, base material, bedding sand, edging, packages, waste allowance, and total material cost for your patio, driveway, walkway, or landscaping project.
Use consistent units and enter the actual paver dimensions.
The calculator combines your project dimensions with the usable coverage of each paver, then adds waste and supporting materials.
Select a rectangular or circular layout and enter the project dimensions in feet or meters.
Add the actual paver length, width, joint gap, package size, waste percentage, and price.
View the paver quantity, packages, project area, edging, base volume, sand volume, and estimated paver cost.
A paver installation requires more than dividing the patio area by the visible size of one brick. Cuts, broken units, pattern alignment, joint spacing, borders, and irregular edges can all increase the amount of material required.
This Paver Calculator provides a practical estimate for patios, garden paths, pool surrounds, courtyards, walkways, firepit areas, and residential driveways. It also estimates the compacted base and bedding sand needed beneath the paving surface.
The effective paver area includes the selected joint gap. The final result is always rounded upward because suppliers do not normally sell partial pavers or partial packages.
| Project Type | Suggested Waste | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Simple square layout | 5% to 8% | Few cuts and a straightforward pattern |
| Typical patio or walkway | 10% | Allows for cuts, breakage, and selection |
| Diagonal or herringbone pattern | 10% to 15% | More edge cutting and pattern alignment |
| Curved or irregular area | 15% to 20% | Higher cutting waste around curved edges |
The compacted base provides strength and drainage. Bedding sand creates a smooth, adjustable layer below the pavers. A common residential installation may use approximately 4 inches of compacted base and 1 inch of bedding sand, but soil conditions, climate, vehicle loads, and local building practices can require different depths.
When pavers are sold by the pallet, layer, bundle, or package, use the package field to estimate complete units. For example, if the project requires 1,557 pavers and each package contains 100, the calculator recommends 16 complete packages.
Calculates individual pavers before and after applying the selected waste allowance.
Rounds your order upward to complete packages, bundles, or pallets.
Estimates base aggregate, bedding sand, perimeter edging, and material cost.
