What Is a Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Calculator?

A Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana calculator estimates the amount that may accumulate in an SSY account by maturity. It uses your annual contribution, assumed interest rate, contribution frequency and account duration to calculate the projected maturity value.

The calculator also separates the total amount deposited from the estimated interest earned. This makes it easier for parents and guardians to understand how regular savings and long-term compounding may help create a future fund for a girl child.

Maturity Estimate Calculate the estimated account value after the full 21-year term.
Interest Breakdown Compare your total deposits with the estimated interest earned.
Yearly Projection Review estimated account growth for every year until maturity.

How Does the SSY Calculator Work?

The calculator assumes that contributions are made for the first 15 years after opening the account. After the contribution period ends, the accumulated balance continues to earn the assumed interest until the account completes its 21-year term.

Estimated yearly interest:
Eligible Account Balance × Annual Interest Rate ÷ 100

Closing balance:
Opening Balance + Deposit + Estimated Interest

Estimated maturity amount:
Total Deposits + Total Interest Earned

When the monthly deposit option is selected, the annual contribution is divided into 12 equal deposits. The calculator estimates monthly interest eligibility and adds the accumulated interest at the end of each account year.

Important Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Rules

Girl Child Eligibility An SSY account is generally opened in the name of a girl child who has not attained 10 years of age.
Deposit Limits The annual deposit generally ranges from ₹250 to ₹1,50,000 per financial year.
Contribution Period Deposits may be made for 15 years from the date the account is opened.
Account Maturity The account generally matures 21 years after its opening date.
Education Withdrawal Subject to scheme conditions, a withdrawal of up to 50% may be permitted for eligible education expenses.
Variable Interest Rate The applicable SSY interest rate may be revised by the government periodically.

Why Deposit Timing Matters

SSY interest is calculated using the eligible balance for each month. A contribution deposited early enough in the month may earn interest for that month, while a later deposit may begin earning interest from the following month.

This calculator assumes yearly contributions are made near the beginning of the account year. For monthly contributions, it assumes each payment is made before the monthly interest eligibility date.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana?
Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is a government-backed small savings scheme designed to encourage long-term savings for a girl child's future education and other eligible financial needs.
What interest rate does this calculator use?
The calculator is prefilled with an annual interest rate of 8.2%. The rate field is editable because the government may revise the applicable SSY rate.
What is the minimum annual SSY deposit?
The minimum required deposit is generally ₹250 during a financial year, subject to the latest official scheme rules.
What is the maximum annual SSY deposit?
The total amount deposited in an SSY account generally cannot exceed ₹1,50,000 during one financial year.
For how many years must deposits be made?
Deposits can generally be made for 15 years from the date the account is opened. The accumulated amount may continue earning applicable interest after contributions stop.
When does an SSY account mature?
An SSY account generally matures after completing 21 years from its opening date, subject to applicable premature closure provisions.
Is the maturity result guaranteed?
No. The result is an estimate that assumes the entered interest rate remains constant. Actual SSY rates can change, and official interest calculations may produce a different maturity amount.
Does the calculator include partial withdrawals?
No. The maturity projection assumes no withdrawal is made before maturity. An eligible education withdrawal would reduce the remaining balance and future interest.
