What Is a Test Grade Calculator?
A Test Grade Calculator converts your test result into a percentage and letter grade. You can calculate a grade using the number of correct answers or by comparing points earned with the total points available.
The calculator also displays useful information such as incorrect answers or lost points, the overall score, and whether the result meets your selected passing percentage.

How Does the Test Grade Calculator Work?
The basic test grade calculation divides the score you earned by the maximum possible score. The result is then multiplied by 100 to convert it into a percentage.
Example Test Grade Calculation
Suppose a test contains 50 questions and you answer 43 correctly.
(43 ÷ 50) × 100 = 86%
Using the default grading scale on this calculator, an 86% score receives a B.

Test Grade Scale
The calculator uses the following common letter-grade scale. Your school or teacher may use different grade boundaries.
| Percentage | Letter Grade |
|---|---|
| 90% – 100% | A |
| 80% – 89.99% | B |
| 70% – 79.99% | C |
| 60% – 69.99% | D |
| Below 60% | F |
How to Calculate Wrong Answers
When every question has equal value, the number of incorrect answers can be calculated by subtracting correct answers from the total number of questions.
Test Percentage vs. Letter Grade
A test percentage shows the proportion of available points you earned. A letter grade converts that percentage into a category such as A, B, C, D or F according to a grading scale.
Because grading policies vary, the percentage is the direct mathematical result, while the corresponding letter grade depends on the scale being used.
