What Is the Volume of a Cone?

The volume of a cone is the total three-dimensional space enclosed inside its curved surface and circular base. Volume is measured in cubic units, such as cubic centimetres, cubic metres, cubic inches or cubic feet.

A cone with the same circular base and height as a cylinder has exactly one-third of that cylinder’s volume. This is why the cone volume formula contains the fraction one-third.

Radius and Diameter

The radius is the distance from the centre of the circular base to its outer edge. The diameter extends across the complete circular base through its centre.

The radius is always half of the diameter. When a diameter is entered, this calculator divides it by two before applying the cone volume formula.

Vertical Height
