What Is Wavelength?

Wavelength is the distance between two matching points on consecutive waves, such as crest to crest or trough to trough. It is commonly represented by the Greek letter lambda (λ).

Wavelength depends on both the wave's speed and its frequency. A faster wave has a longer wavelength when frequency stays constant, while a higher frequency produces a shorter wavelength when speed stays constant.

Important:

Always use the wave speed for the correct medium because sound, light, and other waves travel at different speeds.
